Djump
Posted by info
Performing on Saturday July 26, 2008 from 11:30 - 12:30 PM the GRANDSTAND STAGE
The mid-coast based drumming group Djump performs the community centered rhythms of West Africa. Traditionally, people come together and rhythms emerge from the blending of simple parts. The line between audience and performers is often blurred as dance and song are an integral part of the musical expression. Djump encourages your participation by dancing, clapping, whooping, and undulating. Don’t be shy!
The group’s director, Jeffrey Wolovitz of Lincolnville, participated in the drum ensemble of a traditional West African Dance troupe at Penn State University for 7 years and was lead drummer from 2000-2003. Other group members include Dee Peppe of Union, Norma Athearn of Rockland, M.J. West of Union, Susan Levett of Tenants Harbor, and Wendy Krueger of Liberty. Djumpe will be accompanied by special guests: African dance performers Denyse Robinson of Camden, Bev Goodale of Montville, Jenny Sokol of Belfast, and Maho Hisakawa of Lincolnville.
Djump live at the UU church in Rockland, Maine :
